Ready to Help Baltimore Reach its Climate Action Goals?
Baltimore’s climate goals can only be achieved through collective action. Reaching our targets will require millions of everyday actions from hundreds of thousands of residents across the city. Whether at home, at work, or in your neighborhood, every action matters. Together, we can create a healthier, more resilient, and more sustainable Baltimore for future generations.
Scroll down to explore simple, practical ways you can take action in your daily life to help reduce emissions, strengthen climate resilience, and support a more sustainable Baltimore.
Rethink Your Commute
Transportation is one of Baltimore’s largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. Choosing sustainable travel options helps improve air quality and reduce pollution.
- Walk, bike, or take public transportation whenever possible.
- Carpool with coworkers, friends, or neighbors to reduce emissions.
- Employers can support sustainability by offering flexible telework or hybrid work options. Working from home is one of the most sustainable commutes.
Reduce Energy Use at Home
Small changes at home can make a big difference in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and lowering utility bills.
- Adjust your thermostat a few degrees depending on the season to save energy and reduce costs.
- Seal cracks around windows and doors to keep warm air inside during winter and cool air inside during summer.
- Switch to energy-efficient lighting and appliances when possible.
- Consider renewable energy options such as rooftop solar or community solar programs.
Reduce Waste at Home
Reducing waste helps decrease pollution, conserve resources, and keep valuable materials out of landfills.
- Separate food scraps and drop them off at one of the City’s residential food waste drop-off centers.
- Recycle right by following Baltimore’s approved recycling guidelines. Food, liquids, and oils can contaminate recyclable materials.
- Reduce single-use plastics by choosing reusable bags, bottles, and containers whenever possible.
