SUMMARY:WASTED! The Story of Food Waste Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Baltimore’s Office of Sustainability and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) will co-host a screening of WASTED! The Story of Food Waste. In the U.S.\, 40% of all food produced is never eaten while millions go hungry. Across Baltimore City – 25% of the waste produced is wasted food and a third of all materials we throw out are compostable. WASTED! aims to change the way people buy\, cook\, recycle\, and eat food. Through the eyes of chef-heroes like Anthony Bourdain\, Dan Barber\, Mario Batali\, Massimo Bottura\, and Danny Bowien – audiences will see how the world’s most influential chefs make the most of every kind of food\, transforming what most people consider scraps into incredible dishes that create a more secure food system. WASTED! exposes the criminality of food waste\, how it’s directly contributing to climate change and shows us how each of we can make small changes – all of them delicious – to solve one of the greatest problems of the 21st Century – food wasted. Following the screening\, we will have a panel discussion from area food waste warriors and announce the awardees of the Baltimore Food Matters grants.

SUMMARY:FEMA Preliminary Flood Map Open House
DESCRIPTION:On December 26\, 2018\, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued new Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM). The FEMA preliminary maps show 200 structures will be placed within the new regulated 100 year floodplain. The 100 year floodplain is generally the highest risk area. \nIf your business\, or residence is in the Special Flood Hazard Area\, please attend our FEMA Preliminary Flood Map Open House on Tuesday\, April 2nd from 4-7pm at the Department of Planning (417 E. Fayette St.\, 8th floor\, Baltimore\, MD 21202). Email victor.ukpolo@baltimorecity.gov for more details\, floodplain development guidelines\, or Map Information Services. \nThe Department of Planning’s floodplain management staff regulates development based on effective and preliminary FIRMs. You may visit the Department of Planning’s webpage at https://planning.baltimorecity.gov/flood-insurance-rate-maps for detailed maps showing changes since the last flood insurance map update. You will also find fact sheets for further detail about the mapping process and flood data. \nThe 90 day comment period will end on July 16\, 2019.
