SUMMARY:Lots Alive Upresting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Lots Alive\, a grant program of the Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts and the Baltimore Office of Sustainability’s Growing Green Initiative\, supports the creation of temporary public art projects sited on vacant lots within the Baltimore City limits. \nUpresting\, a winner of the Lots Alive grant program\, is a series of workshops and performances focused around an interactive quadrophonic sound installation developed by local artist Adam Holofcener. \nThese free events are scheduled to take place at 1401 N. Fremont Ave. in the Upton neighborhood of West Baltimore from 1-4pm on April 16\, 23\, 30\, and May 1.  The workshop scheduled for April 16 will feature artist/activist DevRock. The workshops will feature words of wisdom and performances by the artists along with the opportunity for each member of the community to step up to the mic to let their feelings rip!

How can we ensure that our booming cities don’t poison the planet with their waste? And how can we encourage the urban sustainability\, resilience\, and innovation that are essential for addressing global environmental issues such as climate change? The Baltimore School of Urban Ecology lays out a new approach to understanding the ecology of cities. The authors challenge the idea that cities are ecologically pathological. Rather\, they view cities as complex ecosystems that fully encompass human social interactions in addition to trees\, waterways\, and green spaces. \nJ. Morgan Grove is Team Leader and Research Scientist at the Baltimore Field Station\, USDA Forest Service.     \nSteward T. A.
