Public Transit
Effective and efficient public transportation can reduce living costs, create jobs, clean the environment, foster energy independence, and improve quality of life.
Public transit is a central component of a sustainable city, and Baltimore's current public transit system is has room for a great deal of improvement. In order to better serve riders and increase future ridership, plans are in the works to add new bus and rail lines, reduce trip times, and improve riders’ experiences. Improved collaboration between all stakeholders, Baltimore City, neighboring jurisdictions, the Maryland Transportation Administration (MTA), and other partners, will help to take the critical steps to a more vibrant, healthy Baltimore. Here are five strategies to help:
- Upgrade the public transit signaling software to increase efficiency
- Implement a system of integrated downtown shuttles and trolley routes
- Expand the QuickBuses into high-volume transit corridors
- Bring the Red Line Transit project to Baltimore
- Work with the MTA to develop and implement an “ideal transit service” profile for MTA buses
