Pollution Prevention

Overview

The air we breathe, the water we use, and the environments which surround us directly affect the public health and quality of life of our community.

When actions are taken without consideration to all the outputs, our habits can result in unintended, negative byproducts in the form of pollution. For instance, using pesticides with high levels of toxins in your yard can have the unintended consequence of polluting the Chesapeake Bay, making it less healthy for humans and aquatic life.

In order to have clean, healthy natural resources, we need to consciously consider the less visible impacts of the waste we create.  The pollution of our air, water, land, and indoor environments ultimately affects the health of Baltimore’s citizens, communities, environment, and economy.  However, there are steps we can take to prevent further pollution while beginning to restore the health of our environments.
