Leaders Work to Reduce Waste at the Baltimore Beyond Plastic Youth Summit

Shout out to Claire Wayner and Mercedes Thompson for their tireless work to reduce plastic!

In their roles as Baltimore Community Foundation interns working out of the Office of Sustainability, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute Seniors Claire Wayner and Mercedes Thompson have been working tirelessly to reduce litter and pollution from plastic foam packaging in our city and across Maryland. On February 27, 2017, after weeks of outreach and advocacy from Claire and Sadie and their fellow youth advocates, Baltimore City passed a resolution in favor of a full state phase-out of foam packaging. Maryland’s state legislature is currently considering passing that statewide phaseout and Claire and Sadie have been encouraging their peers to make their voices heard through a lobby day at Annapolis, a rally in front of City Hall in Baltimore.

Get involved in their work at the upcoming Youth Summit on April 2nd at the Vollmer Center at Cylburn Arboretum. Learn more about their efforts and what you can do to reduce waste from foam packaging and help slay the mighty trash monster at http://www.bmorebeyondplastic.org/
